Self-Supported Expeditions offer families and friend groups full access to ranch properties for fly-fishing, hiking, and exploring without a guide. Enjoy the peace and quiet of living at the ranch and cooking your own meals. Lodging accommodations include beautiful log cabins along trout streams and authentic ranch houses surrounded by the iconic Western landscapes on A Bar A, Big Creek, and State Line Ranches.
Each cabin is equipped with a full kitchen and stocked with all the basic cooking essentials and bedroom/bathroom amenities. Guests may choose to bring their own food or request to purchase meal kits prepared by the A Bar A kitchen.
Self-Supported Expeditions are available June to October for groups of 2–8 guests.
Self-Supported Lodging Accommodations
Burta’s Cabin is a beautiful 2-bedroom log cabin with an open kitchen/living space and a large porch overlooking the Big Creek canyon at A Bar A Ranch. This cabin can comfortably accommodate groups of four or groups up to five using the pullout couch in the living room. Burta’s Cabin is situated along Big Creek and its proximity to incredible blue ribbon trout waters and hiking trails in the surrounding wilderness makes it the ideal location for smaller groups or couples looking for a quiet escape. Located on A Bar A Ranch, Burta’s Cabin is only a 20-minute drive to A Bar A headquarters.
Radiana is a 3-bedroom classic western ranch house located on the edge of Big Creek Ranch headquarters, the historic working cattle ranch and sister ranch to A Bar A. This house can comfortably accommodate groups of six or families of up to eight using the additional bunkroom. Radiana is a short drive to all activities and iconic Western views of the Big Creek hay meadows and the Sierra Madre mountains make this house an excellent choice. Radiana is a 30-minute drive to A Bar A Ranch and State Line Ranch. Radiana also has laundry facilities, a large dining room, and a comfortable living room with a wood burning fireplace and picturesque views.
Charlie’s Camp is a 3-bedroom ranch style house situated at the base of an excluded aspen draw on State Line Ranch in Colorado. This house can comfortably accommodate groups of seven. The open floorplan provides plenty of space for larger groups and includes a dining area, full kitchen, laundry facilities, and a cozy living area with a woodstove fireplace. The front lawn is a spacious pasture with a historic horse barn and a pond which attracts numerous species of wildlife. From Charlie’s Camp, you are only minutes away from the North Platte River and the fabled headwaters streams in North Park, Colorado, and hiking access on Independence Mountain is found just outside the back door. Located on the southern end of the ranches, Charlie’s Camp is a 45-minute drive to A Bar A Ranch.
Sparkie’s Cabin is an Expedition cabin only available for Self-Supported Expeditions in the late fall months after the summer season at A Bar A Ranch is closed. Sparkie’s Cabin is a beautifully constructed 2-bedroom log cabin with an open kitchen/living space and a porch that overlooks the upper horse meadows along Mullen Creek at A Bar A Ranch. Sparkie’s can comfortably accommodate up to four guests and families up to five using the pullout couches. Perfect for fall guests interested in fishing near A Bar A and Big Creek with instant access to all the hiking trails on A Bar A Ranch and the surrounding National Forests.
