Continually operated as a guest and cattle ranch since 1922, the A Bar A has been home to our guest and staff families for multiple generations. The lessons and values of our historic roots remain integral to our mission, while at the same time we constantly seek ways to evolve and improve.
The A Bar A Ranch has attracted people for centuries, with indigenous people living in the North Platte Valley long before European settlers arrived in the 1800s. Fur trapping, mining, logging, and ranching opportunities drew settlers and by the late 1800s, there were many small homesteads and mining claims in the area. The A Bar A opened as a guest ranch in the early 1920s, as a way to share the Western cattle ranching experience with guests from around the country. When the Gates family of Denver bought the Ranch from its original owners in the early 1960s, they wanted to maintain the authentic guest ranch experience for longtime guests and new families alike.
The extraordinary natural landscapes create the setting, and the people make the experience. We treasure the long-term relationships and connections that are what make the Ranch such a special place.
